VIY is a social enterprise launched in 2011. Their primary goal is to help young people, aged between 14-24, learn vocational trade skills and help renovate local community premises’. These young volunteers are mentored by local trade professionals and have the opportunity to work towards entry level City & Guilds trade skills accreditations.
Since launch…
More than 15,550 young people have volunteered
There have been over 900 projects across the UK and counting
Over 1200 trade professionals have supported and shared their skills by mentoring
More than 7500 young volunteers have achieved City & Guilds skills qualifications
(Figures as of July 2024)
Between the start of our involvement in 2020 up until November 2023, over 76 Travis Perkins branches have given their support to over 140 VIY projects across the UK - donating products and building materials, and either volunteering as mentors or visiting the project work itself.
These projects range from youth centres to local sports facilities, schools, theatres and community venues - all of which were in desperate need of essential repairs and refurbishment.
As we continue our partnership with VIY’s local community projects, we’re incredibly proud of the work and donations given from our hard-working branch colleagues to these valuable and worthwhile schemes. So why not get involved yourself and become a mentor. Change someone's life by sharing your skills and give others the opportunity to learn from you.
