100th Community Project With VIY

Reading time: 2 minutes

Our 100th project took place at Charlton Park Rugby Club. 17 local young people volunteered alongside the VIY team and TP mentors to help refurbish the club’s female facilities.

Many hands worked together on this month-long project (completing in early August 2022), and in addition to the newly-refurbished facilities an outdoor seating area was created to uplift the venue. The bar received a fresh lick of paint too - providing an welcoming area for the local community to enjoy.

The young volunteers were referred by a range of organisations including: Construction Youth Trust, the Amber Foundation, and the local Royal Greenwich Council.

Steve Baldwin, Regional Director at TP, said: “We were delighted to support another VIY project. The work that VIY does in encouraging young people to build up their confidence and learn practical skills is so important, and fits well with our values as a business around caring, being the best, and working together. We’re committed to investing in and developing the next generation workforce in the construction industry, and VIY provides a valuable link to young people looking at beginning a career within this sector.”

Ed Selwood, VIY Chief Operating Officer added, “We’re truly grateful for the support of our trade partners like Travis Perkins who enable us to make a real impact on communities and build skills with young people.”

To date, more than 76 TP branches have donated more than £130,000 worth of materials to VIY projects, and colleagues have volunteered as mentors to help 1,500+ young people learn essential trade skills.

We are so proud of the valuable work VIY and supporting organisations do for local communities, so here’s looking forward to working with them all on the next 100 projects!
