Flo Skatepark Update

What’s happened since our last visit to Flo Skatepark?

We last visited the Flo Skatepark in Nottingham when the project began back in August. Now the £75k redevelopment project, in partnership with Volunteer It Yourself and Skateboard GB, is finally complete and the doors reopened again at the end of September.

Watch this timelapse video to see the progress in motion.

What’s been the outcome for the young learners?

VIY worked with 24 young learners on this project, ranging from one day taster sessions through to two or more weeks.

Nine of these learners have been accredited for City & Guilds Entry Level 3 Carpentry or Health and Safety.

There have been several referral partners working with VIY, with many of the participants not currently in full time education, employment or training. The youth referrals have come from local jobs centres, charities such as Switch Up and Futures For You, the council youth services team, and from the skatepark itself.

Our Travis Perkins branch in Nottingham donated PPE and materials, which proved to be invaluable in ensuring so many learners got hands-on experience in the construction of the skate ramp frames.

Louis, Branch Manager at Travis Perkins Nottingham, tells team VIY “Truly inspired by the work you guys are doing! We as a Branch / Company are more than happy to have helped with your project. We’re really looking forward to coming down to see the work you've done.”
