What kind of metal are fence posts made of?

Each post is manufactured in the UK from galvanised steel. It’s the galvanised steel construction that makes these garden fence posts lightweight, durable and very robust. The lightweight nature means that you can install your garden fence by yourself and work at your own pace.

If that isn’t enough, DuraPost is also maintenance free, so you don’t have to think about ongoing treatment and aftercare. These fence posts are built to last yet, when they do come to the end of their working life, they are 100% recyclable - making them a sustainable option.

How much fence post should be below ground?

The answer will really depend on what height fence post you want to install, but as a general rule the recommendation is that the height of the post is divided by three, whilst the width is multiplied by 3. So, if you have a 6 foot (1800mm) by 3” (75mm) post, you’ll need to dig a hole 2 feet down by 9” across.

Whilst maintaining their inherent strength and durability, these galvanised steel posts offer a slimmer profile than that of a concrete or timber fence post. In turn, you will need a smaller hole, which means less disturbance to the surrounding ground. Moreover, you’ll only need a single bag of postcrete mix per hole.
